“Life in the fast lane” was a song written by Joe Walsh, Glenn Frey and Don Henley. But such a life is a rather risky way of living. Some may see it as being full of excitement, but what is required are often risky and dangerous. It is such a creative lifestyle that an adherent is often rich in material possessions.

This lifestyle is symbolic of our pop culture when we listen to lyrics about sex that may be lewd. Much of this fare tells about wealth and social status so prominently displayed by some Hollywood stars, their adherents and admirers. Some men are seen as having women in compromising relationships. A status symbol may be seen as being with the in-crowd by using recreational drugs and alcohol. Idols may fantasize while drunk in outrageously scenes about sexual and violent acts.

Such glamorization depicts dandy men and flashy women that attend fabulous parties and drive fast fashionable cars. These individuals represent the jet age, flying for engagements to and from New York, London and Paris. They spend time with many other elites and are at banquets in expensive hotels. Such a lifestyle may strike an observer as seductive and enticing.

Often we read salacious stories of such personalities in The National Enquirer, Star Magazine and The Daily Mirror. But what about the potential effects on children? To their impressionable minds such a lifestyle can be tempting and dangerous. Children may come away thinking that is how most famous people live and enjoy life. Some may even attempt to imitate their idol's speech, dress and behavior. The results will be, if they are not careful, that they themselves may become future delinquents, be promiscuous, live sleazily lives and flaunt a selfish lifestyle.

Why can't people slow down, be still and think for awhile?

A good reality check is getting to know the Lord and having these so called beautiful people change their way of life. Families should reflect on matters of the spirit and turn off the TV if shows are not appropriate to watch. Monitor films that they view by being more selective. Watch shows that are edifying and uplifting to the spirit. Resist the temptation of the flesh that leads to tragedies and death. Meditate on the Word of God that brings peace, hope, tranquility and joy.

Adults should set the example for their children. They ought to pray together with them. In seeking guidance and discernment through the Holy Spirit, parents will be better able to determine those physical activities and games that are right and wholesome to play. They will learn what is more appropriate entertainment for their family. By so doing, limits will be set in living within the boundaries of a God-fearing life.
